"Where did they go? I wanna kick some ass!"
— Ashley

Ashley Thompson is a playable character in ObsCure. She is a former student at Leafmore High. She participated in the mysterious events that happened at Leafmore.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Ashley sports her curly black hair pulled back in a ponytail. She wears an off-white crop top with long crochet lace sleeves. She wears low rise jeans along with a decorative chain belt. A black thong is visible and she wears pink and white sneakers.

Personality[]

Ashley cares about her beauty and has a beauty salon membership. She is also a member of her school's local Beauty Club and posed as a model for it. When she was a student of Leafmore High, she was the cheerleader of the basketball team Mighty Sharks.

Ashley is tempered and strong-willed. Pleased and even a little impertinent and smug, Ashley always tries to act with great maturity while playing it cool in every circumstance. She has a heated character and does not allow to be pushed around. She is also shown she can be rather witty; if Ashley is the current playable character, she tells Denny Walden who is searching for information, "I doubt he's in a drawer." She may also say, "Walden... I could never stand him."

She is a great self-defense martial arts enthusiast, probably to vent a furious and aggressive character; the game's website mentioned she's an expert in taekwondo. She distinguished herself at Leafmore during an introduction to weapons for self defense. She is very comfortable with holding a gun, so much so, that she can fire it without supporting it with her left hand (unlike the rest of the survivors).

She is a close friend of Shannon Matthews and was her brother Kenny's girlfriend during her years at Leafmore High. The relationship between the two, however, was somewhat fluctuating between a great mutual attraction and a head-on collision given Kenny's almost selfless behavior and Ashley's aggressive attitude.

Aptitude[]

Her special ability is inflicting a special attack while attacking. While aiming with a gun or a shotgun, she will rapid fire two shots when she uses her ability. While holding a bat, she will swing the bat twice, having the second swing inflict heavy damage on the enemies when she uses her ability. She also deals more damage with firearms to the enemies than any other student, making her the best character to use in combat. The Laser is the only weapon on which her combat skills will have no effect.

Using her ability without aiming will prompt her to say "So where'd they go? I wanna kick some ass!" or "So where are they? I feel like fighting!".

The Leafmore Incident[]

Ashley speaking to Kenny on a phone in her room.

Ashley calls her boyfriend, Kenny Mathews, to remind him of their date. She also mentions that he has already been late before, so she reminds him to not be late again.

The following day, Ashley talks to her best friend, Shannon Mathews, who is also Kenny's sister. She seems angry and fed up with Kenny for missing her date. Shannon then mentions that she hasn't seen him since last night and that he might be missing, so they start to worry and decide to look for their friend, Josh Carter. Josh, convinced that this can be his first real investigation, enthusiastically proposes to wait for the school closing time to look for Kenny together with Ashley and Shannon. The trio accidentally get locked up in school and begin searching for a way out. In the process, they investigate the school corridors, soon discovering that some monstrous creatures roam around the classrooms and hallway. They get attacked in the attic in administration block by some Biters, but they are saved by Prof. Walden from the monster attack.

Our Three

Josh, Ashley and Shannon enter the school's central courtyard after Mr. Walden opens the doors for them. After meeting Stan Jones, and talking to Principal Friedman, the students search for the janitor to let them out of the building. They arrive just after the janitor is killed by one of the monsters. On the cameras in the janitor's room, they decide to look at the cameras. They see Ms. Wickson, the school nurse, pleading for help, so they decide to help the nurse. They also found out on the VHS tape that Kenny is still alive, but is held captive in some prison. They rescue Ms. Wickson, but after asking for where Kenny might be help, she breaks down and starts talking nonsense. They use a handwheel from infirmary, that Ms. Wickson used to block the door, to access a door in the administration block. There they learn there are secret underground passageways, that could be accessed through the auditorium. On their way back, they stumble upon Mr. Walden again.

After Walden hands them the key to the theater, the group reach a sort of an underground laboratory of the school where they find Kenny imprisoned. The group is, however, narcotized by Friedman who infects everyone with the spores of Mortifilia, the plant that gave birth to the monsters in the school. Kenny informs the group that they've been infected and that if the light hits them, they will be transformed. Having managed to escape from prisons and climbed back up, they go to see Ms. Wickson. They, however, find her all beaten and covered in blood. Before she dies from her injuries, she tells them that there is an antidote they can use to cure themselves with and that it's held in Friedman's laboratory in the basements.

Thus they enter Friedman's office, in the library, after discovering the truth about him and his twin brother Leonard who, having discovered Mortifilia in Africa, have used it convinced they can synthesize a serum capable of giving eternal life. There they also find a map of the underground which is stolen by Walden, who shows signs of severe infection. The group passes through the school gardens. The path leads them to the same house that Kenny encountered the previous night. They enter the basement through there and use the statues they've collected to open up the big door. Mr. Walden is there in time to see the big door open and enters it. He threatens Herbert Friedman who is holding a briefcase containing the antidote, with a gun. Friedman refuses to give it to him, claiming Walden is too infected to be cured. Walden, clearly loosing his mind, shoots Friedman in the chest and takes his briefcase. Just after he injects himself with the antidote, he is impaled by horribly mutated Leonard Friedman. Leonard then tosses Walden's body around the room before slamming it onto the door.

For the Leafmore Survivors

Ashley hugging Kenny in the Good Ending.

The survivors arrive to the scene just in time to see Herbert die from his chest wound. This enrages Leonard, who decides to punish the students severely. The students, however, shoot Leonard's roots holding the roof and acting as support beams. By destroying some of the roots, the roof begins to collapse, crushing Leonard and making the way for students to reach the ground floor. It is revealed that Leonard was situated right beneath the gym, that is seen in the beginning of the game. The survivors inject themselves with the antidote, but then Leonard is revealed to be still alive. The students continue to defend themselves long enough for the sunlight to completely burn Leonard's skin and organs off, leaving behind only a skeleton. With his death, the roots dry out and the students are finally safe. Ashley and Kenny then kiss and make out after finally being able to escape the school.

ObsCure II[]

ObsCure The Aftermath - The Fate Of Josh & Ashley

The secret video.

Almost nothing is known about what Ashley did in the two years following the Leafmore High School incident. Presumably she didn't enroll like the others at the University of Fallcreek. However, she appears as a cameo in ObsCure II, in a secret video; the recording shows Ashley in the ruins of Leafmore High. At some point, she disappears from the frame of the camera and the cameraman (presumed to be Josh), goes looking for her, but ends up getting hit and falls to the ground. The last shot shows Jedidiah Friedman, the son of Leonard Friedman, picking up the camera. Neither Stan nor Shannon make any comments about it. It is speculated that Ashley and Josh may have been killed by Jedidiah (in favor of this thesis there is a corpse very similar to Josh near the Pontoon snack bar on Turtle Stone Island, but there is nothing else that could suggest that Ashley died).

Trivia[]

  • If you don't have her on your team and face tough fights, the remaining characters will comment that Ashley is much better at fighting.
  • Ashley is the only playable character not to appear in the game's opening video, as a result her name is revealed through Kenny.
  • In one of the corridors on the first floor of the Leafmore High, on a notice board, it is possible to examine an advertising flyer of the Beauty Club, for which Ashley posed. If the latter examines it, she will simply comment "It's me".
