Alan Gardener was an student of the Leafmore High, in the year 1969, mentioned in ObsCure. It never appears in the game, but he has a critical part helping the Leafmore Survivors to get into the underground lab by informing them about the statues using his diary, which also has proof to incriminate the Friedman brothers. and is rendered through his voice.
Born in 1952, Alan was oncee a student of Leafmore High. It is unknown anything about his looks or his personality, but can be guessed that it was a particularly curious and an impulsive guy, very much like Josh Carter.
Impressed that it had never been made accurate surveys of the 26 mysteriously disappeared students until then in the institute, Alan began to gather information on the founders Herbert and Leonard Friedman. He noted that, despite having founded the school in 1902, neither of them looked older than the photos of the time and was able to obtain the birth certificates of the twins remained stunned by the fact that, according to the papers, Herbert would have had 110 years.
Keeping investigating, Alan would discover much about a trip that the Friedmans had done in Africa in 1895 and, during which, their discoverement a mysterious plant: the Mortifilia. He also inquired about Leonard and his wife, a woman who married him in 1885 and was very similar to the institution's nurse: Elisabeth Wickson. Leonard, disappeared and was presumed dead after a plane crash took place near Long Island in 1921. Frightened but, at the same time, fascinated by these discoveries, Alan began to stalk the dean of the institute and to visit his office in who he discovered several photographs of some monstrous experiments on the students, coming to the conclusion that there was an underground laboratory beneath the school. Secretly following Herbert, Alan visited the underground lab and he drew a map revealing a giant door that, in his opinion, would open up through a mechanism activated by using four statuettes, three of which were held in the library and in the gardens. Reading Friedman's notes, he sensed that the cause of the mutation of the kidnapped students was Mortifilia which, exposed to light, causes the metamorphosis.
Determined to shed light on the matter, Alan hid his diary with all its discoveries, Friedman's old office key (Which he had to replace) and the map of the underground in December 2nd of 1969 in a safe in his room on the dormitory, and decided to enter one last time in the underground to find out what was behind the big door. He was allegedly discovered and captured by Herbert Friedman in December 3th and then be submitted to the terrifying experiments. During his captivity, however, he left a note out of his cell in which he urged anyone who found him to look for her diary in the dorm so he can finish what he had started.
Captured in 1969, Alan probably already died during the events of Obscure, however it is likely that the first student to become Homme-Arbre in Friedman's underground is he, because outside of that cage you can find a note from him. Most of the documentation on him is to be found in the dormitory, after opening the crate in which he had hidden his diary; by reading what can be aware of all the discoveries made by Alan, very useful to the achievement of Friedman's laboratory.
- It Is likely that the surname Gardener is a quote from the Urban Legend's characters, Paul Gardner. Who was interpreted by Jared Leto.
